Sometimes you stumble on things at the right time.
Such is the case with a recent trip my family took to Liberty Island to visit Lady Liberty in New York. After a delightfully uncrowded visit inside the museum and a visit to the Ranger Information station, my wife requested a hot chocolate from the Refreshments building. Once inside, I was greeted with large LCD displays over the ordering counter flashing all kinds of food and drink to help us through our day. One thing in particular caught my eye…..organic juice.
What was that? A refreshment stand in a National Monument touting organic, well, anything? Upon further investigation it was true; the concessionaire of Liberty Island, Evelyn Hill, is making some organic offerings in a bold move from a business that normally offers not the best of healthy options when it comes to food.
UPDATE: I received a letter from Brad Hill, President of the company that runs the gift shop and food service at Liberty Island and this is what he had to say:

We are adding Lipton Organic tea bags next month.
Natural and local
Beef: All our burgers are from Angus beef raised locally (not kids burger)
Chicken: Our chicken is Bell & Evans chicken raised locally (not fried chicken)
Both are fed natural food, sustainable farming methods, no antibiotics
Our Statue of Liberty bottled water is from a local spring.
Our website is under construction, but we should have a menu up shortly.
